Dietary Guidelines for Gestational Diabetes

You will be meeting with a dietitan who will create a meal plan based on your specific calorie needs and eating patterns. You will learn more about food choices, nutrition label reading and blood sugar monitoring. Until then, these simple guidelines will help you through the next few days:

  • Try to eat your meals and snacks around the same time daily.
  • Eat plenty of dietary fiber from foods such as 100% whole grain breads, cereals and pastas, fresh fruits, vegetables, dried beans.
  • Minimize high fat and fried foods such as deep fried foods and chips, excessive use of butter/margarine, gravies and dressings.
